Welsh lamb exports rise by £5m

Results from 2010 show that exports rose to just over £147 million, with Welsh lamb seeing a £1 million rise, while sales of beef abroad rose by £4.4 million compared with 2009.
 

Exports of Welsh lamb totalled more than £111 million last year. France remained the biggest importer, with over 21,000 tonnes worth £78 million going across the English Channel.

The other main importers were Belgium, Italy, Germany and Portugal, while exports to Spain exceeded £1 million for the first time.

The biggest percentage increase went to the Far East, with the value of exports to Hong Kong rising by 35 per cent, while Singapore increased the value of its exports by more than 80 percent.

Welsh beef exports rose to over £35 million in 2010 with the Dutch market continuing to be the biggest importer, with shipments worth £10.6 million.

The other main importers of Welsh Beef were Italy, France, Belgium and Germany who all increased the volume of beef they imported last year compared to 2009.
